How a 21-Year-Old Earns Over 20 Lakhs/Month on Meesho

This article is based on an interview with Utkarsh, a 21-year-old e-commerce entrepreneur who earns over 20 lakhs per month selling bags on Meesho.

Introduction

Utkarsh, at the young age of 21, has built a successful e-commerce business, generating substantial income through the Meesho platform. He shares his journey, strategies, and insights in this interview.

Starting with a Small Investment

Utkarsh began his entrepreneurial journey with a minimal investment of just ₹100. Inspired by a friend already selling bags online, he decided to explore the e-commerce space.

Product and Brand: Cluchey

Utkarsh’s primary product is bags, marketed under his brand name “Cluchey”. He sells a variety of bags, including backpacks for girls and laptop bags, with plans to expand into handbags. He chose bags due to the lower return rates compared to items like clothing, which often face size and fitting issues.

Manufacturing and Design

Utkarsh handles the design of his bags himself and has a dedicated team for manufacturing. He sources materials from Surat and imports some materials from China. Manufacturing in bulk helps him keep costs down, allowing him to offer competitive prices.

Sales and Revenue

Utkarsh’s monthly sales range between 20 to 25 lakhs, with a gross profit margin of 25-30%. He manages multiple accounts on Meesho to optimize tax savings. He also sells on Flipkart and Amazon. At the time of the interview, he had generated over 1 crore from one of his Meesho accounts.

Key Strategies

  • Focus on a Niche: Utkarsh concentrated on bags to avoid the complexities of managing multiple product variations.
  • Competitive Pricing: He sells good quality bags at reasonable prices.
  • Effective Marketing: While relying on platform ads, he also uses Instagram and Facebook ads for his website.
  • Quality Control: Providing good quality products minimizes returns.
  • Dropshipping: He also offers dropshipping services for Chinese products.

Platforms Used

  • Meesho: Primary platform due to ease of handling.
  • Flipkart: Another significant sales channel.
  • Amazon: Provides the best support and customer base.
  • Cluchey (Website): His own website, though it was under maintenance at the time of the interview.

Order and Shipping Process

Orders are received through various platforms, and inventory is managed in his office. Labels are downloaded, and a team handles packaging. Delivery services from Flipkart, Meesho, and Amazon pick up the orders. Daily, he ships around 200-250 orders.

Expansion and Future Plans

Utkarsh is considering expanding his business by utilizing Amazon’s FBA and Flipkart warehouses. He is reinvesting his earnings to grow his brand and explore new opportunities.

Advice for New Entrepreneurs

Utkarsh advises newcomers to start with a GST number and a current account. He suggests reselling products initially to gain experience before launching their own.
