Threads gives users more control over replies

The social app Threads has introduced new features so users can better control how people reply to their posts. (jang.com.pk)

What’s new?

  1. Reply approval
Users can now review and approve replies before they appear under their posts. That means you decide which responses become visible. (TechCrunch)
    • When you post something, you can turn on a setting like “Review and approve replies”. (SocialSamosa)
    • All replies will go into a “pending” list. You can approve them one by one, or approve/ignore them all at once. (Beebom)
    • If someone tries to reply to your post and you have approvals turned on, they see a message like: “Replies to post require author approval.” (SocialSamosa)
  2. Activity feed filters
In addition, Threads has added filters in the Activity tab so you can see only certain types of replies: (jang.com.pk)
    • You can set the feed to only show replies from people you follow. (Social Media Today)
    • You can also set the feed to show replies that mention you. (Social Media Today)
    • These filters help especially if you get lots of replies and want to focus on replies that matter most to you. (Beebom)

Why is this important?

  • It helps keep discussions on your posts cleaner — fewer off-topic comments, spam or negativity. With reply approvals, you control what appears. (9to5Mac)
  • For users who have large followings (creators, brands, influencers), managing replies becomes easier. They can filter and approve so they don’t miss important replies. (VOI)
  • It gives users more power and more control over how they engage on social media. (jang.com.pk)

What to watch out for

  • If you enable reply approval, some replies will be delayed (they won’t appear immediately). So users replying may wait.
  • Some may feel it’s a form of “censorship” — since you decide which replies appear. The platform will have to balance control with open conversation. (Social Media Today)
  • These features are rolling out now (October/November 2025) and may not yet be visible to everyone. (9to5Mac)

What this means for you

If you use Threads:

  • If you post regularly and get many replies, you might want to turn on Reply approvals to filter and manage them.
  • Use the Activity filters to keep your feed focused — e.g., see only replies from people you follow or those that mention you.
  • If you’re a brand or professional, these tools can help you maintain quality of discussion on your posts.
  • If you’re a regular user, a friend, or follower: be aware that replies might not show immediately if the poster has enabled approvals.

In short: Threads is helping you set the tone of your conversations by letting you decide who replies and when they appear, and by giving easier ways to see replies that matter. With these updates, whether you’re casual user or creator, you get more control and less noise.
